Artist Self-Funded Residency Opportunities
Wasps has availability in two picturesque locations in Scotland for artist self-funded residencies ranging from two to four weeks. These residency opportunities are ideal for artists based nationally and internationally, looking for a space tailor made to retreat, reflect, review, and create.
The Booth, Shetland
Wasps are welcoming applications from visual artists, makers and cultural organisations working across a variety of arts practices to stay at The Booth in the inspiring and magical setting of Scalloway, Shetland.
The Booth is a small bothy situated on the harbour front in Scalloway, Shetland with stunning views. The building consists of a combined 'clean' working area and living space which is located on the upper level and a stone-walled basement for more 'dirty' work.
The living accommodation has a fully fitted kitchen, washing machine/tumble dryer and a bathroom with a fully accessible shower. There is a bed space located above the kitchen/bathroom, the sofa also opens up into a double bed and towels and bed linen are provided.
The Booth is an ideal spot for artists, working across a breadth of disciplines, to make, research and reflect on your practice. It also acts as the perfect base to explore the dramatic and ever-changing landscape of Shetland. 1. A statement about your practice and how you plan to spend your time at The Booth
2. An up to date artistic CV
3. Six to eight images of recent art work or similar.

The Admirals House, Skye
Wasps are welcoming applications from visual artists, makers and cultural organisations working across a variety of arts practices to stay at The Admirals House in the stunning location of the Isle of Skye.
The Admirals House lies 6 miles South of Portree on the isle of Skye. The house is a converted black house and offers a communal living/kitchen space which is large enough to accommodate talks and gatherings, 3 bedrooms for visiting artists (1 ensuite), wood burning stove, Wi-fi and smart TV.
Within the grounds of the main house, there are three studios to be allocated to visiting artists: The Alan Macdonald Studio, Roddy Macdonald Studio and Lady Joan. All three have a unique character and would lend themselves well to different practices. All studios have a table, chair and easel for visitors to use.
The location provokes a sense of quietness and isolation, a feeling of retreat and of contemplation and space.
There are no required outcomes for the residency, but to apply we require:
- A statement about your practice and how you plan to spend your time in Skye
- An up to date artistic CV
- Six to eight images of art work (or equivalent)
Bookings run for two weeks or four and have availability throughout 2018 and 2019.
