Wasps and The Briggait are delighted to present 'Duende', a solo exhibition from Clementine Drake as part of Wasps 'Time Being' Programme.
Exhibition Open: 16th November - 6th December
'Duende' is an exhibit of the first of two completed sculptures of a projected series of 6 works. The title comes from the first work and will continue through each piece and is a reflection of the notion of the 'Duende' expressed by the poet and playwright Garcia Lorca.
Clementine Drake is a sculptor who specialises in carving plaster for casting to bronze. Born in Dorset, she spent her formative years as an artist in the South of France working mostly in steel.
Moving to New York in 2009 she spent 2 years working under the renowned sculptors Bruce Gagnier and Garth Evans studying at the New York Studio School, developing her skills in traditional sculpture processes and then concentrating her practice in carving.
On returning to the U.K she spent three years in London during which time she held her solo show '9 sculptures'. She now lives in Glasgow working from her studio at Wasps Hanson Street Studios.
Recent Exhibitions include a solo show Recent work: 'Balanced Enigmas' at Patriothall Gallery, Edinburgh and group show 'The Uncommon Beauty of Common Things' at The Pipe Factory, Glasgow as part of The Architecture Fringe.
