The creative evidence from these workshops will be showcased as part of this exhibition.
Expressive mark making at its core is communication of the artist being present; it is not a form conveying a still life or a physical moment in time. Instead, it is more focused on the process of how the artist is creating their marks – the pressure, speed, direction, and texture.
Remove the pressure of perfection, and embrace the freedom of an unfiltered voice.
The addition of prose into this mix is another way that we can communicate; and by combining these processes we enable the space and time to communicate in another form, giving value to direct expression and instinctual creativity.
Caitlin Hanna is a contemporary artist working across a variety of media, with the prime focus on the message or feeling at the centre of the artwork.
Caitlin’s work revolves around emotional vulnerability, often featuring confessions, emotions and life experience.
They feel this aligns with their mentoring and facilitating role at Creative Catalyst, as their genuine interest in connecting with others and being honest about feelings and experiences can create strong, and open relationships.
Alison Price is a Scottish artist and facilitator based in Perth. Her work is rooted in drawing with the aim of creating a connection to a moment or sensation. From her experience over the past 6 years facilitating art sessions on a Stroke Rehabilitation Ward and with Vision PK, her current MFA research at DJCAD in Dundee is around the connection of creativity and rehabilitation. Responding to delicate tactile materials she is exploring a sculptural practice, working with paperclay, copper and paper to create pieces that suggest fragility as well as strength.
She shares her passion for art by hosting workshops, hoping to enable others to find and explore their own creativity.
Creative Catalyst is a social enterprise based at Perth Creative Exchange which supports young people through connecting creativity with confidence, wellbeing & next steps. We offer bespoke provision that supports young people to harness their creativity as a tool for building wellbeing, unlocking potential, and having agency over their own future.
