I class myself as a fibre artist. Based in the highlands of Scotland. I use wool and yarn as a creative expression. With the intention to evoke an emotion or a kind of nostalgia.
Yarn is often associated with an enclosed familiar love, with feelings of warmth. But yarn can also represent the ties that bind us together or as a protection from the world.
My work is often based on a memory or event that has happened in my life. I always approach this in an unstructured and boundless way. With the intention always to express emotions, feelings and connections.
Often, I am drawn to objects that are now unloved to memorialize them. Changing the way, they are viewed with the aim of new life, these are for aesthetic purpose only. I use a crochet hook, knitting needles or needle felting needles as a tool to implement and create my ideas in a visual way. Like a painter uses a paint brush to apply paint to canvas.
This provides pieces of work that is both challenging and unique. I approach this in an experimental way, allowing the art work to grow and develop. Always the process in the way I work is more important than the finished piece as I freely allow the flow of emotion from my heart and soul emerge into the work that I produce. Some of my work focuses on finding common connections.
