My practice encompasses an investigation into the possibilities of painting, dating back to the early 1990's. It's concern is primarily in trying to exploit the curious grey area between observation (drawing, sketching, taking photographs), memory, and imagination.
My paintings involve improvisation and often begin with the barest inkling of a starting point, sometimes in fact almost from scratch. A painting is never 'finished'. Hopefully the imagery used in the 'unfinished' piece will meld satisfyingly for the viewer with the twin concerns of what's happening spatially and the pigmentation.
