Peter McCaughey, (1964 Omagh, N. Ireland), is an Artist and the Director of WAVEparticle, an award-winning art organisation he set up to explore the placement of art and artists into the world, beyond the confines of the gallery and museum. The focus is the contested role of the artist in the process of building and rebuilding place. WAVEparticle collaborates with others to produce new processes, events and objects focussed on re-thinking how the places we live in, and the systems that regulate our lives, move to a more creative, connective model.
Most recently WAVEparticle curated The Happenstance, Scotland’s critically acclaimed contribution to the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, 2018
WAVE supports particle, Peter’s independent self-directed practice. WAVE is grown-up, responsible and professional; particle is wilful, underground, and playful. WAVE negotiates, particle intervenes. Amongst other projects, Peter regularly collaborates with artist Ben Parry to produce Cultural Hijack, a project that explores the role of activist art and public intervention as practices of resistance across the landscapes of contemporary crisis.
