As a textile artist I make pictorial art for the wall and also rugs, cushions and seat pads.
My work falls between the art and craft categories, but I identify primarily as an artist as the design and narrative content in my work is strong. My work utilises the bright colours and textures of the recycled fabrics.
I am self-taught in textile art, but received a diploma in Art in Education from Dartington College of Arts in 1971. I have been making textile art since 1997. I have exhibited my work in galleries locally and also taught rag rug workshops in many locations.
As well as making wall art and rugs, cushions and seat pads I offer one to one teaching of rag rugging and sell specialised tools. I often work to commission and can tailor a piece to fit in with a client’s home.
Influences include- Frida Kahlo, Henry Matisse, Paula Modersohn Becker, Grayson Perry, Louise Bourgeois and Vincent Van Gogh. Recurrent themes in my work – organic forms, Buddhist iconography, feminism, environmentalism and spirituality.
