Driven by the urge to draw on location, to move through an environment recording elements which I feel best describe the experience of that place. I am fascinated by the intervention of man, our ownership and adaptation of surroundings and the collections of personally significant objects we accumulate. Through these we leave indicators of individual, social, cultural, religious and political values in addition to practical concerns. Casually absorbed into the domestic, urban and rural landscapes and in turn concealed or revealed during the passing of time, they present a record of self-expression which hints at a wider narrative.
Since studying at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, I have exhibited throughout the UK, held residencies or travel grants enabling work periods in Scotland, India, Cuba, USA and Central America and won a number of awards including the Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation Award. My work also has been commissioned for publishing, editorial, advertising and art in public spaces.
