Inspired predominantly by the landscape of the Scottish Highlands my designs are built on reputation of the intricate patterns that are rooted in this environment. My interest in this area has lead to research into Folk songs and tales that are present in these surroundings. My designs are created using a combination of the two areas of research to produce jewellery that represents more than just the landscape but tells the story of the setting in which it is situated.
For this collection I have focused on the darker side of the album “The Hazards of Love” by the Decemberists, each piece represents a pivotal scene from the album.
To convey a sketch like quality in my work the repeated patterns are pierced by hand, I also enjoy how light reacts with these outlines to create further complex patterns through shadows. The main structures of my jewellery are made from precious metals; colour is then introduced through the use of pearls and gemstones.
