Although essentially abstract, my work is evocative of something recognisable. Of course art is about communication but I am aware of the ambiguity in this.
Often, my intention is to seduce the viewer into involvement with the work, by making the pieces beautiful and enticing. However, sometimes concealed, are ideas the viewer may not choose to linger over, should they be presented in a less appealing, less enigmatic way.
Through the use of concealed colour, texture and rhythm, I like to explore the contrast between external appearance and the internal. I am interested in the way people are not always what they seem, the way our hidden, private self contrasts with our public persona. A kind of mysterious duality.
