Working in an explosion of oil paints, turpentine and varnish, I embrace the natural beauty that is created when ‘accidental’ paint splashes happen. I adore the unpredictable marks and patterns that appear when contrasting materials and colours are placed next to each other. Inspired by seascapes, spacescapes and colour combinations and patterns found in nature, I create dreamlike paintings built up of distorted layers of colours and imagery.
Recently my focus has been on portraits of close friends. I hope to convey the love I feel for the people around me who are so special, and try to represent how stunning they are, both visually and spiritually. By also continuing to study my own image - and most often my naked form - I hope to explore my internal fight between hesitant vulnerability and fierce, developing confidence.
I live in Edinburgh, Scotland, where I graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2006, with a BA (Hons) in Drawing and Painting. I have a studio in Dalry, regularly exhibiting work in various Edinburgh galleries. One of my paintings is on permanent display at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, as well as several in private collections.
