My work is inspired by the existence of kindred beings and their habitats which humankind refers to as nature or wildlife.
We live in an anthropocentric world but I try and record from a perspective where difference is regarded with curiosity and respect. Thus I endeavour to record from within the worlds of my subjects.
As an artist I sense the interconnectedness of life, culture, and the everyday matter and ‘stuff’ that surrounds us. For example a bird or mammals nest may be constituted of matter such as hair or paper from our human world. We coexist, often sharing our gardens and communal areas with all manner of non-human life.My work explores the notion that in fact human,non-human, nature, culture, animate and inanimate, are all interconnected.
I currently paint using a monochrome oil painting technique whereby I apply a black oil paint to a primed canvas and then remove the pigment to show light and form. This gives the freedom of sculpting the form and allows for movement. i occasionally use a small amount of colour.
