Emma Jo Webster designs contemporary tapestries using vibrant wools, cottons and silks. Her imagery draws on emotions and narratives, sometimes incorporating fragments of text. Through the use of vivid colour and play of light within the surface texture, the tapestries evoke a sense of the passage of time and an infinity of thought.
She also specialises in handwoven portraiture, a unique and ultimate gift and compliment for someone you admire. Through Emma Jo’s love of colour she also creates scarves and pashminas, which are works of art, each one being a one–off as she ‘up-cycles’ silks, luxury fabrics and tweeds to appliqué onto them.
Emma Jo was recently employed by West Dean Tapestry Studio as part of the weaving team to weave the last tapestry to be woven of 'The Hunt of the Unicorn' at Stirling Castle . This project is now finished and the complete set was unveiled June 2015.
She works part time for Dovecot Tapestry Studios in Edinburgh and is currently taking on private commissions from her studio in Hanson St.
