I seek to describe the essence of a place. Water, sea and skies provide an ongoing challenge to my practice. I return to places I have visited and are in one way or another important to me. Colours that speak and an attempt to put down in paint something about the feel of what I am looking at.
Drawing throughout my process provides a structure to what I am trying to do. Nothing stands still and this observation of shifting light, clouds and reflection continues to intrigue me. Haphazard patterns from the natural world meet human attempts of taming and domesticity. Lively brushstrokes and rich colour are my tools. Views from Catterline, St Cyrus and the Mearns have a lifelong connection and familiarity to me while Iona has been an association made within the last ten years, shorter but perhaps no less enriching. Edinburgh is now home.
